How To Raise A Child That Loves To Read
You enjoy a good book and would love to pass this love of reading on to your child. Being a good reader is a crucial skill that your child should master early on to become successful in almost every aspect of her live. Being able to read isn't just an essential skill we acquire as children,it is also a relaxing past time that allows us to explore all kinds of things and topics through books.
When you think about it, there really aren't hardly any occupations out there anymore that don't require a decent amount of reading. This includes reading training materials, manuals, notes from the boss and more. But the need to be a good reader starts long before that. Almost everything your child does in school requires a fair amount of reading. Good reading skills will give your child an advantage throughout their years in school. It is up to your parenting to give your child this advantage.
Learning to love books start early. You can read to your kid from the time she is born, or even during pregnancy. Even infants love to lay snuggly in your arms and listen to your voice as you read to her. At this stage it really doesn't matter what you read. Feel free to read your favorite novel out loud.
By the time your child is a year old, she will start to show an interest in looking at picture books with you. Because your child's attention span is only a few minutes long at this stage, you should opt for books with little text and lots of pretty pictures. Sharing books with your infant while the two of you snuggle together is also a great way to spend quality time together. It will of course also strengthen the bond between mother and child.
When your child reaches the toddler stage, she starts to enjoy books with a little more text. This is also a time when your child will love poems and rhymes. They are a great way for her to make sense of the different sounds in our language and how they are combined to form different words. That's a big reason why your child will ask you to read a book several times in a row.
It really is simple to encourage your child to pick up a skill as important as reading. So, why don't you start make reading to your kids part of your daily routine and thus invest in your child's future.
